Bluetooth-based context-sensitive hardware and software

The principle advantage of mobiAware compared to other existing products on the market is its ability to detect a variety of mobile device capabilities, such as APIs or supported programming libraries, concrete versions of the operating system as well as a wide range of terminal hardware characteristics. All of this is possible because of the joint use of Device Description Repositories.

mobiAware is an experimental development which identifies mobile devices and provides applications in nearby networks based on Bluetooth. mobiAware represents the implementation of a patent developed in collaboration with the CTIC Foundation. Based on an algorithm made up of different techniques and device databases, mobiAware is capable of identifying the type of device and sending it an application or information adapted to its characteristics (for example, features of the terminal and operating system). In this way, mobiAware contributes to alleviating to some extent the problem known as device fragmentation, which is very common in the mobile technology sector.

The principle features of the project are:

• Java OSGi architecture
• HTTP Rest API access
• Bluetooth Multidongle guaranteeing scaleability
• Remote supervision via Web browser
• Collection of statistical information on results
• Device capability identification and adapted content provision (patent pending technology).

Terminal capabilities identified by mobiAware are as follows:

• Mobile hardware features such as output mechanisms (e.g. screen) and data input (e.g. keyboard), battery, available sensors, connectivity, streaming, memory and processor.
• Mobile software features, such as operating system and version, APIs and available programming platforms, standards implemented from standardisation organisations (e.g. OMA, W3C, 3GPP, UpnP Forum…)
• Third party applications installed on mobile device
• Information on the mobile device user (accessibility, preferences, …) (*) in specific scenarios complying with Data Protection Act.

mobiAware is a technology especially developed for use by publicity and marketing companies targetting mobile devices.
